Calgary Endodontic Retreatment
Generally, teeth that have been root canal treated will last as long as the rest of your teeth. Sometimes, however, there are instances where full healing may not occur. Incomplete healing may occur in teeth with calcified or narrow canals (where parts of the canal system were not initially located & cleaned during the initial root canal treatment) or when bacteria have gained entry back into the canal system (via faulty restorations or cracks/fractures in the teeth).
Steps for Endodontic Retreatment:
- A small opening will be made in your tooth or crown.
- The existing root canal filling material will be removed.
- We will then thoroughly examine your tooth canal system, with the aid of a microscope and if necessary, a 3 dimensional radiograph to search for anatomy that may not have been treated in the initial root canal treatment.
- Cleaning of the canals with then be performed and then the canals will be dried and refilled with a rubber-like material.
You will then be referred back to your dentist for a final restoration.
